Overview

Electronics assemblers build our electronic goods, cars, home products etc. by assembling parts on a production line.

Activities

  • Taking delivery of parts from suppliers
  • Operating presses that shape metal sheets and components
  • Fixing the engine and frame to the vehicle chassis
  • Assembling other parts using robotic welders and hand tools
  • Controlling paint spraying machinery
  • Fitting interiors, wiring, lights, dashboards and windscreens
  • Moving finished vehicles to storage areas ready for shipping
  • Carrying out quality checks at each stage of production, using digital readouts and manual inspections

You could work at a car manufacturing plant.

Workplace

Your working environment may be noisy. You will have to do a lot of repetitive work.

Working Hours

40-42 a week.

Salary

Salary: £15,000 – £25,000 per year.

Qualifications

Employer mays require you to have at least 2 or more GCSEs at Grades 9 to 3 (A* to D) or some may even require 4 or 5 GCSEs at Grades 9 to 4 (A* to C). If you have an EHCP you may be able to apply under the DfE exemption which allows the apprentice to use Entry Level 3 English and Maths qualifications. The apprentice would have to be competent enough to successfully achieve all other aspects of the apprenticeship requirements, become occupationally competent and achieve Entry Level 3 in English and Maths before the end of their apprenticeship.
